Project description:
On the eastern edge of Munich, next to Riem Park, a 25.5-hectare site is being transformed into a new urban district. Since the 1960s the site has been filled with businesses built without planning permission, on top of a backfilled gravel pit. Under the name “Gute Uta”, it is planned as a dense, ecological neighbourhood with about two-thirds housing and one-third commercial space, plus schools and other social infrastructure. A moderated, cooperative expert process was used: Three planning teams first competed with separate designs, then jointly merged them into a single masterplan. The masterplan was adopted unanimously in March 2026 and is now the basis for the land-use plan.
