Pop-Up Campus

Climateflux, in cooperation with the Chair for Building Technology of RWTH Aachen University, will contribute to the Zukunft Bau PopUp Campus in Aachen, funded by the BBSR (Bundesinstitut für Bau-, Stadt- und Raumforschung).

In summer 2022, we paired our participatory data collection process, Climatewalks with co-design sessions on how to improve microclimate conditions in Aachen. A group of students, researchers and local officials recorded microclimate conditions while walking around the city using our mobile weather station. In parallel, the same group reported on their individual experience of microclimate conditions through a thermal comfort survey. The resulting mapping illustrates quantitative and qualitative microclimatic conditions along the path, highlighting hotspots as well as the cooling effect of certain features such as trees and green infrastructure.
